High School Assistant Coach

Beat the Streets New York (BTSNY), established in 2006, is a sport-based youth development organization whose mission is to develop the full human and athletic potential of urban youth and to strengthen the wrestling culture within New York City. BTS works with an average of 2,500 male and female student-athletes in all five boroughs, aged 10-18. Programs include the Academy, the Junior League, and the Training Center. In addition, BTS partners with the NYC Department of Education’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) that sponsors a boys and co-ed wrestling season in the winter and a girls wrestling season in the spring.

Summary: Reporting to the Head Boys Coach and Head Girls Coach, the High School Assistant Coach will help support high school programming. The primary responsibility for the High School Assistant Coach is to serve as a coach at Training Center practices, camps and competitions.

 

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Assist with check in process and practice facilitation at the BTS Community Training Center for all age groups

  • Assist with curriculum design, planning, communication, and facilitation in our monthly High School and Junior League Academy enrichment days.

  • Assist in planning, budgeting, and facilitation of college visits for High School Academy Members

  • Assist in planning, budgeting, and facilitation of social outings and team building experiences for High School and Junior League Academy members

  • Collect and report data each month including check ins, engagement hours, etc

  • Manage weekly schedule via mass communication (text and email) to members

  • Travel with age group teams to Northeast regional tournaments or training opportunities

  • Attend and assist with facilitation of local Junior League and PSAL competitions

  • Assist with wrestling recruiting at local schools through the Gym Class Hero Program

  • Assist with camps (preseason, winter, spring break)

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong wrestling background (as a coach and/or athlete)

  • Pass USA Wrestling's background check

  • Various certifications including CPR, First-Aid, Concussion Safe Sport (can complete upon being hired)

  • Ability to work nights and weekends

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience with sports-based youth development

  • Experience working with high school-age youth (14-18)

  • Familiarity with NYC public schools
