Beat the Streets New York (BTSNY), established in 2006, is a sport-based youth development organization whose mission is to develop the full human and athletic potential of urban youth and to strengthen the wrestling culture within New York City. BTSNY works with an average of 2,500 male and female student-athletes in all five boroughs, aged 10-18. Programs include the Academy, Junior League and Training Center. In addition, BTSNY partners with the New York City Department of Education’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) that sponsors a boys and co-ed season in the winter and a girls season in the spring.
Summary: The Up2Us Sports VISTA project builds the capacity of host site organizations working to end the cycle of poverty through intentional youth sports and education programming. The Up2Us Sports VISTA placed at BTSNY will support and facilitate annual program operations. This will result in increased effectiveness within programming events ensuring BTSNY student-athletes have a positive experience in-turn increasing long-term retention and performance measures throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:

Support BTSNY high school and Junior League Academy operations

Plan meals for student-athlete and staff on Academy Days

Coordinate travel logistics

Assist in data collection including Social Emotional Learning surveys, attendance, performance accomplishments, etc.

Manage student-athlete registration and check-in process

Develop program calendar including Training Center dates, locations and staff coverage

Coordinate with USA Wrestling and Director of Programming that all training locations are insured sites

Develop a tracking document with all coach first aid, concussion, and SafeSport certifications/trainings along with expiration dates

Create informational “one-pager” handouts for coaches and athletes for events

Assist as chaperone and/or coach on training and competition trips as needed
