Penn joined Beat the Streets fresh out of college, after graduating from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in May 2015. He wrestled collegiately under Head Coach Carl Fronhofer, a former national finalist. During his college career, he was a three year starter at 125 pounds and a captain his senior year.
A native New Yorker, Penn grew up north of the big apple in Westchester, NY. He began his wrestling career in the seventh grade and wrestled for Ardsley High School. He also attended Iowa Style Wrestling Club practices, under Head Coach John Degl, in Somers, NY, throughout high school. As a high school junior, Penn captured third place in the states championship and went on to earn a state championship title his senior year at 119 pounds.
Penn was an active coach for the Iowa Style Wrestling Club as a junior and high school student and throughout his college career. He is extremely grateful to be able to continue a career in the sport that he not only loves, but that has given him so much. He enjoys coaching kids and seeing them develop both on the mat and as young adults.
