BTS Executive Director Brendan Buckley has announced the hiring of Steven Keith as new Training Center Coordinator.
“I am elated to have Steven Keith joining the team at Beat the Streets New York City as our Training Center Coordinator. Steven has a dynamic resume’ as an athlete, coach, and most recently as BTS Providence’s Executive Director. Steven’s extensive background and experience, along with his strong ties to the area, make him ideal for this role. Bringing him back home to New York is a wonderful opportunity for our kids, coaches, and staff and we cannot wait for him to join us on January 1,” Buckley said of Keith’s hiring.
Keith, a native of Shoreham, N.Y., brings an elite level of experience as an administrator, coach and athlete to the BTSNY team. He has served BTS Providence for the past two-plus years, first as Managing Director of the organization during the 2016-17 school year before being promoted to Executive Director in the summer of 2017. In his time in Rhode Island, Keith has been involved in every aspect of BTS Providence’s work, especially the program’s operations infrastructure. In his first year with BTS Providence, Keith received the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA)’s Tom Marquis Memorial Award, presented annually at NHSCA Nationals in memory of former U.S. Navy SEAL Thomas Joseph Marquis to the coach or official that displays selflessness and mentorship in and out of his program.
"I'm incredibly excited for this opportunity to continue my professional career as the Training Center Coordinator for Beat the Streets New York,” Keith said about his new opportunity. “For the past two years, I've been blessed to drive the mission of Beat the Streets Providence in a variety of ways as its Executive Director. During my time in this role, I've discovered working directly with our youth on and off the wrestling mat is my passion. Motivating student-athletes to believe and achieve in the classroom, on the wrestling mat, and in life is rewarding beyond explanation. I'm honored to be joining the team at Beat the Streets New York and ready to work collaboratively with a group of talented and passionate individuals to positively impact the lives of the city’s youth."
Keith had a highly decorated four-year career as a student-athlete at Harvard University from 2009-13. His accolades included four NCAA Championship berths; four Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championship appearances; one NCAA All-American selection; two First Team All-Ivy League honors; two National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic nods; and being named as team captain. Keith also volunteered his time as a member of Harvard’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing the wrestling program for SAAC for four years.
Among Keith’s numerous high school accomplishments at Shoreham-Wading River High School were a NHSCA Junior National All-American selection, three All-State honors, two New York State titles, three Section XI crowns and an undefeated 46-0 record as a senior.
