Beat the Streets New York, PSAL to host 2023 NYC Mayor's Cup Wrestling Championships

The best in NYC high school tournament is set for Jan. 21 at Harry S Truman High School.

Beat the Streets New York and the Public Schools Athletic Association are proud to announce the 19th annual NYC Mayor's Cup Wrestling Championships will be Saturday, Jan. 21 at Harry S Truman High School.

New York City's best high school wrestlers from the PSAL, Athletic Association for Independent Schools (AAIS), Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) and New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) will compete.

The tournament took a one-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic but returned in 2022 thanks to BTSNY and several generous supporters to co-host the event with the PSAL.

“We are pumped to be joining forces with the PSAL again to host the annual Mayor’s Cup Championships," BTSNY Executive Director Brendan Buckley said. "As always, there is a lot of excitement amongst all of New York City’s wrestlers to earn the title, 'Best in The City' and I cannot wait to watch this incredible event!

"A big thank you is in order for (PSAL Wrestling Supervisor) Ken Bigley and his staff at the PSAL, the BTS staff, our supporters, volunteers and fans to help continue offering the Mayor’s Cup. Best wishes to all of NYC’s coaches and student-athletes!”

The tournament will feature divisions for boys and girls student-athletes. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the championship matches slated for 5 p.m.

"The PSAL is again looking forward to this great NYC wrestling tradition as our wrestlers compete for the title of 'Best In The City,'" Bigley said.

The tournament will showcase student-athletes across all five boroughs as they compete to prove they are NYC's best. The boys division will have 16 wrestlers in each weight class, while the girls division will have eight wrestlers in each weight class.

Beat the Streets is seeking volunteers for the tournament. Volunteers will receive a free ticket to attend the 2023 Beat the Streets Annual Benefit.
