Naomi Henry Receives the 2020 BYOD Scholarship

After consideration from the BYOD board, Wingate High School graduate and New Jersey City University-bound Naomi Henry has been selected for the 2020 Become Your Own Dream Scholarship.

According to co-founder of the scholarship fund Lorelei Martin-Tavakolian, this year's applicants were a record number to prior years. Potential candidates were required to submit an essay detailing the impact of wrestling on their lives and how they plan on giving back to the sport in the future, a letter of recommendation from a coach, a copy of their high school transcript, and a demonstration of financial need. Candidates were then screened in a remote interview process.

As this year's recipient, Henry will be joining an ever-growing list of BTS scholarship winners, which includes Princeton's Leonard Merkin.

"Naomi is a breath of fresh air," said Martin-Tavakolian. "She is a strong, bright, driven, and astute young lady, eager to take on the world by storm. She owes her experience as being a mentor and learning what it is like to be a leader to the sport of wrestling."
