8 Beat the Streets student-athletes win 2025 PSAL Girls Freestyle City Championships

Twelve BTS Academy members made the finals, including six who claimed city titles.

Eight Beat the Streets student-athletes won a city title at the PSAL Girls Freestyle City Championship on Saturday at Harry S. Truman High School in The Bronx.


Leona Gao, Ariana Oliveri and Ana Carolina Mindlin Lockard each repeated as city champions. Gao won with an 11-0 technical fall, while Oliveri and Lockard each posted a fall. Lockard had the most dominant performance in the tournament with three falls in a combined 2:04 and did not allow a point.


Aracelli Rodriguez, Lorena Martinez, Jazalin Perez, Tehana Savory and Mary Famuyide also took the top spot on the podium.


Rodriguez, Martinez, Gao, Oliveri, Lockard and Savory are all active participants in the BTS Academy program, which provides student-athletes with life-changing opportunities on and off the wrestling mat.


Rodriguez, who took second place last year, needed just 34 seconds to grab first this year. Martinez followed with a dominant 12-2 win and Perez had a 48-second fall. Savory knocked off returning city champion and fellow BTS Academy member Belen Medina 8-2. Famuyide scored a fall in 1:28 against BTS Academy member Nicole Polyan.


BTS was well represented in the finals with 21 of the 26 finalists, including 12 who are in the BTS Academy. The 13 championship bouts included eight matchups with both finalists involved in BTS programs.
