Taylor will make her third Beat the Streets Annual Benefit appearance, while Gonzalez will make her debut.

New blood is guaranteed to emerge in the 53 kg women’s freestyle division for Team USA at 2025 Final X. A pair of age-group World Team members and former college teammates — Brianna Gonzalez and Felicity Taylor — will battle on Saturday, June 14 at Prudential Center.

The duo has wrestled four times in the past two years, each woman earning two wins in the matchup. All four bouts were decided by decision, promising fans an excellent Final X series that has the potential to go three matches.

During the 2024 college postseason as teammates at Iowa, Gonzalez ousted Taylor in the NCWWC regional finals, 9-3, before Taylor flipped the script in the NCWWC national finals, winning the big one, 9-2. Taylor backed it up a month later with a 9-4 win over Gonzalez at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Most recently, Gonzalez topped Taylor, 6-5, in the finals of the 2025 U.S. Open.

Both women have competed at an age-group World Championships for Team USA in recent years. Gonzalez was a member of last year’s U20 World Team. Taylor wrestled as part of the U23 World Team in 2019 and 2022. Neither earned a World medal.

Notably, Taylor finished in fourth place at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials to make the U.S. National Team, her second time reaching this benchmark. Her other U.S. National Team season was 2022, where she was Final X runner-up.

On the college front, Gonzalez is a two-time NCWWC All-American for Iowa, with finishes of second and fifth at the national tournament. Taylor is a five-time national finalist and two-time national champion. She collected three runner-up honors and her first national title while at McKendree, before transferring to Iowa for her final season.

Gonzalez qualified for Final X by winning the U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nev. Taylor rebounded from the runner-up finish at the U.S. Open to win the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Louisville, Ky., securing her place in Newark.

What’s at stake?

Final X will determine the 2025 U.S. World Team in two international disciplines—men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight classes will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

This year will mark Taylor’s third appearance at a Final X event. She made the best-of-three series in 2022, where she fell to eventual World champion and Olympian Dominique Parish in two matches. In 2023, Taylor was pinned by Samara Chavez in a true-third match. Gonzalez has not wrestled at Final X.
