Registration opens for 2024-25 membership with Beat the Streets

Memberships are free for K-12 New York City student-athletes from all five boroughs.

As the new wrestling season and school year approaches, Beat the Streets is excited to announce registration is now open for 2024-25 membership, which runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31, 2025.

All BTS memberships are free-of-cost for K-12 New York City boys and girls. For more information and to register, visit btsny.org/register.

BTS' inclusive program model serves students from all five NYC boroughs, with more than 80 percent of students identifying themselves as students of color. BTS is committed to meeting students where they are at and offers coaching at weekly wrestling practices for students at various skill sets.

BTS offers three major programs: the Junior League, Academy and Training Center.

Junior League: The city's only elementary and middle school wrestling league - with 20-plus teams - offers after-school programming with weekly practice and competition opportunities focused on teaching the basics of wrestling. Boys and girls participate in three Family Afternoon Match (FAM) Days, two mini tournaments and one city championship in the fall. The program teaches common phrases or techniques used on the wrestling mat that are translated to real-life learning scenarios off the wrestling mat.

Training Center: The hub of NYC scholastic wrestling community, the Training Center offers K-12 boys and girls free coaching, competition prep and support. Students have the unique opportunity to train and form new friendships with their peers from schools across NYC's five boroughs.

Academy: Open to middle school and high school boys and girls, the Academy teaches skills necessary to succeed in wrestling, graduate high school and pursue post-secondary study. The program is structured around Academy nights during the school year, which feature guest speakers and group discussions along with a wrestling practice led by Olympic champions, U.S. World Championship team members, NCAA men's and women's coaches and champions.

Students in the Academy program also receive regional and national competition opportunities. Graduating high school seniors in the Academy receive monetary scholarship to support college tuition and fees.

Applications for the 2024-25 BTS Academy will be available later this month.

BTS works to develop the full human and athletic potential of the urban youth and strengthen the New York City wrestling culture. We aim to make a lifelong impact on student-athletes through the lessons learned on the wrestling mat -- discipline, perseverance, self-reliance, humility and a strong work ethic.
