Gable Steveson declines Final X New York berth to compete at Beat the Streets Annual Benefit

The 12th annual Beat the Streets Annual Benefit will feature seven 2021 World and 2020 Olympic medalists.

Today is the deadline for 2021 World medalists and 2020 Olympic medalists to accept their spots in Final X New York, set for June 8 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

2020 Olympic champion Gable Steveson (Minneapolis, Minn./Gopher WC RTC) declined his position at 125 kg in men’s freestyle for Final X New York.

"After much thought, I have decided to decline the Final X spot.," the two-time NCAA champion and Dan Hodge Trophy winner wrote on Instagram. "Keep my seat warm for me. I will be back to take over the world once again! See you when that time comes."

The Final X New York finalists at 125 kg in men’s freestyle will be determined at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament May 21-22 at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa. The winners of the semifinals will both advance to Final X.

Final X New York will serve as the 12th Beat the Streets Annual Benefit. These unique and electrifying annual events help Beat the Streets New York raise millions of dollars to support local youth wrestling programs which empower young people in New York City.

Sixteen athletes earned the right to advance directly to Final X, and 14 of them declared their spots. There are seven declared for Final X Stillwater (June 3) and seven declared in New York. The Final X opponent for each declared athlete will be determined at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament
