BTS Academy member Joy Murray earned the Outstanding Wrestler award.

Nine Beat the Streets student-athletes, including six in the BTS Academy program, claimed Public Schools Athletic League girls folkstyle city championships Sunday at Harry S. Truman High School in The Bronx.

BTS Academy student-athletes Joy Murray (Grover Cleveland), Belen Medina (WC Bryant), Lanxi Xu and Isabella Lorenzana (Francis Lewis), and Gabby Heffez and Tehana Savory (Brooklyn Tech) each won city titles.

Murray earned the Outstanding Wrestler award after she had four falls en route to her title. Murray, the No. 6 seed in her bracket, upset the top two seeds in the semifinals and finals to claim the championship.

Fellow BTS student-athletes Marielys Lugo (Bathgate), Nadiya Delvois (Curtis) and Madison Polonia (Flushing) also reached the top of the podium. Lorenzana and Delvois both won for a second straight year

These student-athletes will shift to their PSAL freestyle wrestling in March. The PSAL girls freestyle Individual City Championships is on Saturday, May 18 at Harry S. Truman High School, with the team championships on Wednesday, May 22 at a location to be announced.

Since being founded in 2005, Beat the Streets has pioneered a movement that now includes 150 individual wrestling programs, a youth league and the first girls high school league.

BTS works to develop the full human and athletic potential of the urban youth and strengthen the NYC wrestling culture. We aim to make a lifelong impact on student-athletes through the lessons learned on the wrestling mat -- discipline, perseverance, self-reliance, humility and a strong work ethic.
