Five BTS Academy members advance to compete at the New York state championships on Feb. 27-28 in Albany.
Twenty-one Beat the Streets student-athletes, including five in the BTS Academy program, captured Public Schools Athletic League boys city championships this past weekend at Michael J. Petrides School on Staten Island.
With the city title, they qualified to represent the PSAL and wrestle at the New York high school state championships Feb. 27-28 at MVP Arena in Albany.
In Division 2, Karian Aspinall (Bronx Studio) made history by becoming the first girl in PSAL history to win a boys city title. Aspinall was one of 12 BTS city champions alongside Rocky Molinare and Bradley Munoz (both of Petrides); Jowell Maestre, Erill Soloman, Jordan Hinds, Leon Seeram and Elijah Desir (all of Eagle Academy); and Karem Saleh, Cian Gaughan, Joshua Uben and Aiden Brito (all of Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy).
Molinare earned his fourth straight city title, and Brito captured his third consecutive crown. Munoz, Gaughan and Uben each claimed their second city title. Munoz, Hinds, Desir and Solomon each went from second at last year's city championship to first this year. Saleh, Molinare, Munoz, Seeram and Desir are all active members of the BTS Academy, a life-changing program focused on preparing student-athletes for success on and off the wrestling mat.
In Division 1, Tristan Levin (Tottenville) claimed his fourth consecutive city title. The Staten Island native is the PSAL's lone returning state medalist after his eighth-place finish in 2025. Eric Ivry (James Madison) also is heading back to the state tournament for a second time. For Maxim Belousov (James Madison), the third time was the charm after being a runner-up the past two years. Malik Ayesh (New Dorp) also claimed a city title after being a runner-up last year.
Davron Turgunboev (James Madison), Ronny Guzman (Grand Street Campus), Yusuf Balaev (Franklin D. Roosevelt), Denis Isufi (Lafayette), and Erkinjon Meliboyev (Long Island City) all reached the top of the podium.
Uben and Ivry each earned their respective divisions' Charles Glass Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for their tournament performance.
Fourteen BTS student-athletes also took runner-up honors, with eight in Division 1 and six in Division 2. Six of those 14 student-athletes are also BTS Academy program members.
