Levi Haines, Chance Marsteller battle at 79 kg in men’s freestyle at 2026 Final X, presented by Kerberos Capital Management

Reigning World silver medalist Levi Haines and 2023 World Team member Chance Marsteller meet for the first time.

Reigning World silver medalist Levi Haines and 2023 World Team member Chance Marsteller are slated to square off at 79 kg in men’s freestyle at 2026 Final X, presented by Kerberos Capital Management, on June 19 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The best-of-three series winner will earn a spot on the 2026 Senior World Team.

Haines secured his spot at Final X after claiming silver at last year’s World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. He carried that momentum into the U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, where he won gold for his first age-group World title. Last year, he also added gold at the U23 Pan American Championships.

After finishing his collegiate career this year at Penn State by winning his fourth Big Ten title and second NCAA crown, Haines took gold at the Senior Pan American Championships in Coralville, Iowa. He swept the field for his first Senior gold, with all four victories by technical fall.

Marsteller claimed the 79 kg title at the U.S. Open Championships to earn his Final X spot. He rolled through the bracket in Las Vegas, not allowing a single point until his championship bout. In the finals, Marsteller upended 2025 Final X runner-up and 2026 Zagreb Open Ranking Series event bronze medalist Evan Wick, 7-3. Three of Marsteller’s first four wins before the finals were technical falls in the first 75 seconds of the contest.

Marsteller is looking for his second appearance on the Senior World Team after representing the U.S. in 2023. At the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Marsteller finished 14th. He competed in three international tournaments last season, claiming two golds and a silver.

The Final X series in New Jersey will be the first time Haines and Marsteller square off.

What’s at stake at Final X?

Final X will determine the 2026 U.S. Senior World Team in two-of-three international disciplines — men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight class will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative for the 2026 Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Marsteller is 1-1 in Final X series, splitting matchups against 2012 Olympic champion and six-time World champion Jordan Burroughs. Marsteller dropped the first series in three matches in 2022 in New York then avenged his series loss, two matches to one, in 2023 in Newark to earn the World Team spot.

This is Haines' second-straight Final X appearance after he swept Wick, 10-0 and 6-1.

Beat the Streets New York Annual Benefit

Final X will serve as the 2026 Beat the Streets New York Annual Benefit, its 16th to date. These unique electrifying events help BTSNY raise critical funds each year to support local youth wrestling programs, which empower young people in New York City. The BTSNY Annual Benefit after-party takes place at the conclusion of Final X.

Haines is 2-0 at Beat the Streets events following his two wins at 2025 Final X. Marsteller is 3-3 in Beat the Streets Benefit matches, with his appearances coming during 2022 and 2023 Final X.
